Jodie Ching is a Japanese and Okinawan American yonsei born in Torrance, California and raised on East O‘ahu. She graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute and has a bachelor’s degree in Japanese language and literature. Ching began writing for the Herald as a freelancer in 2014 and became its staff writer in 2018. With this issue she begins a new chapter as The Hawai‘i Herald’s editor.
