WHO/WHAT: The Hawai’i premiere of the award-winning documentary “Carving the Divine,” will be held at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin Buddhist Temple and is also sponsored by Buddhist Study Center and the Hawaii Buddhist Council. The film follows the journey of becoming a master sculptor of Buddhist images, a 1,400-year-old tradition of the busshi (sculptor specializing in Buddha statues). The film has been shown at 30 film festivals in 22 countries and has won awards such as Best Director of a Foreign Language Documentary at World Cinema Milan and premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in London. Guests have the opportunity to meet film producer Yujiro Seki in person as well as join a private viewing of the Amida Buddha image in the main sanctuary of the Honpa Hongwanji temple. The event is open to the public.
