WHO/WHAT: Join the Shingon Mission of Hawaii for an introduction to shamisen with three masters of the three-stringed Japanese musical instrument. Sensei Anju Madoka, a shamisen and minyo teacher from Madoka no Kai school in Osaka, and Sheree Tamura, a gifted shamisen artist and singer, will discuss Nagazao, Tanzao and Tsugaru styles. Special guest Grant “Masanduu” Murata from Afuso Ryu Ongaku Kenkyu Choichi USA will discuss the differences and similarities of the shamisen and its Okinwan cousin, the shanshin.
