
WHO/WHAT: Hawaii’s Royal Connection to Japan Tour, ‘Iolani Palace’s new specialty tour, explores the relationship between the Hawaiian Kingdom and Asia. The 45-minute, docent-led tour discusses King Kalākaua’s 1881 journey to Japan and gives guests access to restricted areas of the palace for an up-close look at priceless objects. Learn about Kalākaua’s inner circle and hear stories about his efforts to strengthen the Kingdom’s position on the world stage. Japanese-speaking docent-led tours are available, upon request.
