WHO/WHAT: Part of Bishop Museum’s after hours event, the Kapaemahu Speaker Series features Hidden in Plain Sight: The History of the Healer Stones of Kapaemahu in a Changing Waikīkī. The conversation discusses historical findings of the healer stones, including details about its first written stories, loss, rediscovery and restoration – including talks of the rise of tourism, militarization and the erosion of Hawaiian cultural identity throughout the 20th century. DaShop and Bess Press also hosts an exclusive book signing of the newly released children’s book “Kapaemahu,” based on the Academy Award contending short-film by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, Dean Hamer and Joe Wilson, illustrated by Daniel Sousa. During the event, attendees have the opportunity to purchase books and have it signed by the authors.
