WHO/WHAT: The Japanese American National Museum will feature author Daniel James Brown who will discuss and celebrate the release of the paperback edition of his newest book “Facing the Mountain: A True Story of Japanese American Heroes in World War II” with Tom Ikeda, executive director of Densho. The book is based on Brown’s extensive interviews with the families and chronicles the journeys of four Japanese-American families and their sons who volunteered to serve in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, tasked with nearly impossible missions throughout Europe. Their lives abroad and their families back at home, forced to shut their businesses down and surrender their homes, is captured in Brown’s book and takes us back during an era when being an American for so many people of Japanese ancestry meant sacrificing all that they had, including their lives.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, May 14, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. (PST). Go to janm.org/events/2022-05-14/author-discussion-facing-mountain-daniel-james-brown to register to attend virtually. The event is free and open to the public.
