WHO/WHAT: Presented by the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center, spend the afternoon with author Judy Mundle as she discusses her memoir of Janet, an American-born child of Japanese immigrants, forced to uproot her life into an internment camp. Because of her adept comprehension of both English and Japanese languages, Janet was assigned as a block manager — a camp administrator to carry out bureaucratic tasks on the assigned block. After enduring the psychological strain of forced incarceration, Janet’s survival was threatened when she joined her husband in post-war Japan as famine gripped the country. Janet remained an American patriot through all her ordeals, and held on to the dream of one day reuniting with her family in the U.S.
