WHO/WHAT: Da Shop: books + curiosities (dashophnl.com) will host a talk-story with “Calabash Stories” author Jeffrey J. Higa. The book is a collection of stories rooted in the author’s Okinawan-Hawaiian Heritage.

Higa is the great-grandson of Okinawan immigrants who came to Hawai‘i to work on the sugar plantations. He earned his MA in creative writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and is an award-winning fiction writer, essayist and playwright.

The event will be moderated by Marli Higa who has an MA in fiction from New York University and works as a copy chief for Women’s Health Magazine/Hearst Communications.
