WHO/WHAT: Hosted by Ukwanshin Kabudan, a non-profit, Ryukyu performing arts troupe based in Honolulu, the LooChoo Identity Summit is a three-day gathering that brings both people of Ryukyuan (Okinawan) descent and Ryukyuan enthusiasts (aka “Okinawans at heart”) together.

LooChoo is the Okinawan pronunciation for Ryukyu, meaning the Okinawan island kingdom, and generally refers to all islands that had been under this kingdom, not just current-day Okinawa. In celebration of Ryukyuan identity and Indigeneity, the purpose of this summit is to perpetuate understanding and appreciation of Ryukyuan heritage.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 20, from 1-6 p.m. Register at loochooidentity.org/refgist/.
