WHO/WHAT: The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui’s scholarship is open to high-school seniors “with a record of involvement in promoting and perpetuating the Japanese culture of Japanese language and a desire to continue to do so.”
Applicants must be Maui island residents during their senior year; be graduates of the class of 2020 from a Maui high school; and complete the Scholarship Program Application Form, submitting it with the other required materials by the deadline.
JCSM will select recipients for three $1,000 JCSM scholarships; additionally, an award for the Asa Ellison Memorial Scholarship, named after the late, former president of JCSM, will be granted to “an applicant who has shown grit in learning and in the perpetuation of the Japanese language — also at $1,000.”
WHEN/WHERE: By Thursday, Oct. 15, 11:59 p.m., HST, applicants should email the following application materials to jcsmhawaii@gmail.com: a completed, signed application form; an official high-school transcript or proof of graduation (photo okay); an applicant profile photo (selfie okay); a signed recommendation letter (digital signature okay); and, optionally, no more than five supporting photos.
