This is the third Hawai‘i Herald issue that features recipes rather than upcoming events. Why? Because with “stay home” the name of the game to fight COVID-19, there isn’t much of anything going on. For now, it’s safer for everyone to be in their kitchen, chopping, cooking and baking with their family, rather than gallivanting around town. So, enjoy cooking together and then eating together.

The following recipes are from the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin’s popular and timeless “Favorite Island Cookery” cookbooks, which were published in the 1970s. They were favorites in the 1970s, and they’re still favorites in 2020. Enjoy!
