The Hawaii Island AJA Veterans Legacy Association is accepting applications for $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded to two graduating seniors who plan to continue their post high school education this fall. The scholarships are funded by the Hawaii Island AJA Veterans Legacy Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization dedicated to honoring and perpetuating the legacy of Japanese American veterans who served in World War II.
Applicants must be a senior at any Hawai‘i Island public or private high school and must enroll full-time at any accredited college or university in the state of Hawai‘i for the 2020-2021 academic year, registering for 12 credits or more. Online educational programs are not eligible.
In addition to the application and other documents, an essay of no more than 1,000 words is required describing the significance and role AJAs in the 100th Infantry Battalion, Military Intelligence Service or the 442nd Regimental Combat Team played in World War II (focusing on at least one of these groups) and their legacy.
Scholarships must be applied to tuition, room and board, books, travel or other expenses at the college or university of the applicant’s choice.
