WHO/WHAT: The display of Japanese New Year’s kadomatsu is a popular tradition in Hawai‘i. At this workshop, participants will learn about the history, design and symbolic elements that are a part of the classic kadomatsu. With components sourced locally and from Japan, Rick Hoo will give a presentation about the history of Oshogatsu (New Year’s), and then attendees can participate in a hands-on workshop on how to make a contemporary version to take home.
WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, Dec. 1, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Spalding House (2411 Makiki Heights Dr.).
COST: $65 per person, $55 for Honolulu Museum of Art members.
