WHO/WHAT: The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Center for Japanese Studies and the Department of Sociology will present “Serendipity and Sociology: Five Decades of Studying Japanese Society,” a retirement lecture by Dr. Patricia Steinhoff, professor of sociology. Steinhoff, who acknowledges that much of her work was the result of serendipity — “the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way” — will speak on how she has used sociological concepts and methods to analyze Japanese society and social movements.
