WHO/WHAT: The annual Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Ceremony will mark the 73rd anniversary of the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing of Hiroshima. The Rev. Daiya Amano of the Hawaii Izumo Taishakyo Mission will open the event with a blessing and purification ceremony. It will be followed by special messages and songs presented by community and religious leaders and guests. At the conclusion of the ceremony, all attendees are invited to ring the Hiroshima Peace Bell, which is a replica of the actual peace bell in Hiroshima Peace Park. The Honolulu bell was gifted to the City and County of Honolulu by the Hiroshima Prefectural Government in 1985. The ceremony is hosted by the Hiroshima Commemoration and Peace Committee.
