WHO/WHAT: Nisei Veteran’s Legacy and the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu are cosponsoring “The Hawaii Nikkei Legacy,” a photo exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the arrival in Hawai‘i of the Gannenmono, the first Japanese immigrants to settle in Hawai‘i, and presented in conjunction with Maui Matsuri. The exhibit depicts the history of Japanese and Japanese Americans in Hawai‘i through photos, showing how Nikkei (overseas Japanese in Hawai‘i) have merged their Japanese cultural values with the blend of cultures in Hawai‘i.
