WHO/WHAT: The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center’s Leadership Series will feature a talk by former Hawai‘i Gov. John Waihee, who will speak on leadership and the values of aloha that continue to be relevant in today’s world. Gov. Waihee was the state’s fourth governor. He served from 1986 to 1994 and was the first and only Native Hawaiian to be elected governor in the United States. Gov. Waihee started his political career as a delegate to the 1978 Hawai‘i state constitutional convention, where he was instrumental in the creation of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and the adoption of the Hawaiian language as an official language of the state.
