“Rikuoh (TBS),” premieres on Sunday, April 22, at 9 p.m.

Miyazawa Koichi runs a small, but longstanding company which makes tabi (traditional Japanese socks). He is the CEO of the fourth generation company with about 20 employees. Due to a decrease in demand for tabi, the company is struggling to keep afloat.  In order to save the company, Koichi devises a plan to launch a new product line.  With the use of the company’s accumulated knowledge for making tabi, they work to develop running shoes.

“Partners 13 (TVA),” premieres on Thursday, April 26, at 8 p.m.

One day, Grace’s sister Joy dares her to be spontaneous and kiss a stranger. The man Grace kisses turns out to be Lucas Matthew, and they eventually begin a romance.

Tragically, Joy is diagnosed with leukemia, and while undergoing treatment at the hospital, begins to fall in love with a young intern. The intern turns out to be the same stranger her sister Grace has fallen for – Lucas Matthew.

What will happen when the sisters discover they are in love with the same man?

“The Poor Heiress,” Sunday at 6 p.m.

“The Poor Heiress” tells the story of two rival families in a Filipino-Chinese community: the Wong and Sy clans.

The families clash over differences in culture and traditions. But hidden beneath those differences may be relationships that tie the families together in ways they don’t realize.

“Nobunaga’s Chef 2 (TV Asahi),” Sunday at 8 p.m.

This drama is about time travel based on the manga of the same name.

A young chef named Ken is mysteriously transported to the Sengoku period and also loses most of his memories. He is thrown in the midst of a battle between soldiers, and, as both sides think he is a spy, they hunt him down. During his escape, Ken meets Natsu, a young blacksmith girl. Because of his cooking abilities, Ken is soon recruited as personal chef of Oda Nobunaga.

“Please Love Me (TBS),” Sunday at 9 p.m.

Thirty-year-old Michio loses her job after her employer declared bankruptcy. To make matters worse, she drains her savings supporting her younger boyfriend. Just on the brink of poverty, she runs into a former boss, Ayumu, who is now running a café. Michio had always feared Ayumu, but when he offers her a job at the café, she accepts out of desperation. Michio struggles in the new job, but unexpectedly discovers a different side of Ayumu.

“Kuru Kuru Japan,” Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m.

“Soko ga Japan,” Monday through Friday at 7 p.m.

This series, which replaces “Soko ga Shiritai,” takes viewers on a journey throughout Japan, highlighting foods and places that define the country that is Japan.

“Family Fortune War (TV Asahi),” Monday at 8 p.m.

Ikuo Sato met his wife, Kaede Kawamura, at the hospital where he is interning at, when her grandfather was hospitalized.  He fell in love with her and decided to marry her even though their social statuses are worlds apart. The Kawamuras are a distinguished family running the prestigious Kawamura Memorial, a funeral home, and Kaede is their sole heir. Ikuo, on the other hand, comes from a broken home and was brought up by his single mother.  Detaching himself from the ongoing inheritance battle between the Kawamura family, he dreams of going to remote places that lack medical practitioners to help as many people as possible.

Will Ikuo and Kaede be able to lead a normal family life despite their differences?  And will the value of family prevail over fortune and wealth?

“Segodon,” (NHK) Tuesday at 8 p.m.; repeats on Sunday at 7 p.m.

This is the newest Taiga drama from NHK.

Segodon follows the life of historical figure Takamori Saigo, who was born the first son of a lower-class samurai.  He was exiled twice and went through three marriages. He became the central figure of the Meiji Restoration, but he fights against the government’s army.

Based on the novel “Segodon” by Mariko Hayashi.

“Lone Wolf with a Cub,” Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 7 p.m.

This series chronicles the story of Ogami Ittö, the Shogun’s executioner who uses a Dötanuki battle sword.  Disgraced by false accusations from the Yagyü clan, he is forced to take the path of an assassin along with his 3-year-old son, Daigoro.  Together they seek revenge on the Yagyü clan and are known as “Lone Wolf and Cub.”

“The Imposter,” Saturday at 5 p.m.

Lara and Sara were conjoined twins who, after being separated, are adopted by two different aunts. Aunty Betty takes Lara, so her mean daughter Vanessa will have a playmate. But living in their cruel household forces Lara to run away, and she eventually finds a kind Samaritan who takes her in. Meanwhile, Sara is adopted by another aunt, whose abusive husband disfigures her face. After plastic surgery to restore her face, Sara realizes the surgeon has made her look exactly like her cousin Vanessa. Only then does she learn that the surgeon and Vanessa are lovers, and the surgery was a plot to create Vanessa’s body double, freeing the couple to travel abroad and spend money stolen from Vanessa’s husband.

“Handful of Tears,” Saturday at 6 p.m.; repeats Sunday at 5 p.m.

“Crime Scene Investigators 2 (CSI 2),” Saturday at 7 p.m.

Satoshi Itomura is an assistant police investigator who belongs to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Scientific Investigation Team. His team collects scientific evidence and pieces together fragments of information in order to help build a story. Itomura often does not care about the scientific approach and instead pays a great deal of attention to the things the victims always carried with them or treasured, like the toys from their childhood. He focuses on these things because they usually carry the victim’s last message.

“Behind the Noren 3,” Saturday at 8 p.m.

The family drama “behind the curtain” continues from season two.  It has been four years since Naoko started training to become the head proprietress of her husband’s family inn.  She has persevered in earning the respect and acceptance of the current head proprietress, who happens to be her mother-in-law, Shino. The announcement of Naoko being named the new head proprietress finally nears, until Shino unexpectedly presents Naoko with an assignment.
