WHO/WHAT: The Hanayagi Dancing Academy Hawaii Foundation will present its annual maizome, or recital, showcasing the accomplishments of the students over the past year. The program will feature 24 dance and nagauta (long song) shamisen numbers performed by teachers and students. Most of the dances were choreographed by the school’s current principal and shihan (master instructor), Hanayagi Mitsujyuro (Bryson Goda). All of the students and teachers will be on-stage for the finale.

The Hanayagi Dancing Academy Hawaii Foundation was established in 1947 by founding principal, Hanayagi Mitsuaki I, and continues to carry on her legacy and mission of perpetuating and promoting the cultural arts of Japan in Hawai‘i through classical and traditional dance and music.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 3, performance starts at 1 p.m., in the Mission Memorial Auditorium next to Honolulu Hale.
