“The Last Witness,” airs Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m.

Sadato Sakata was a highly regarded public prosecutor but now has his own law practice and specializes in criminal cases. One day, Sadato accepts a request to defend a successful businessman accused of murdering a woman he was having an affair with. The crime appears open and shut: fingerprints, bloodstains, and security camera footage all indicate Kuniaki Shimazu is guilty. But Shimazu insists he is innocent, and Sadato’s intuition leads him to accept the case.

“Homicide Team 9 – Season 5” (TV Asahi), premieres on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 8 p.m.

Homicide Team 9, which is composed by the few elites, is the most unusual team in criminal investigation divisions of the Metropolitan Police Department. They are always at the top of the criminal arrest rate. They try to solve criminal cases with struggling and cooperating each other.

“Business Marriage,” premieres on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 9 p.m.

A single young woman desperately seeking employment takes on a job of becoming legally married to a straight-laced, unexciting, bachelor businessman. Can the couple function in a strictly professional relationship like this without the truth becoming known? Is there any chance of a chemical reaction between a pure company man and a dreamer woman thrown together for mere convenience?

“Nobunaga’s Chef 2,” (TV Asahi), premieres on Monday, Sept. 4, at 8 p.m.

Based on the manga of the same name, this drama is about time travel.

A young chef named Ken is mysteriously transported to the Sengoku period and he also loses most of his memories. He is thrown in the midst of a battle between soldiers, and, as both sides think he is a spy, they hunt him down. During his escape, Ken meets Natsu, a young blacksmith girl. Because of his cooking abilities, Ken is soon recruited as personal chef of Oda Nobunaga.

“What A Mother Wouldn’t Do,” airs on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.

Midori Onodera is a single mom and the owner of a small bar that suddenly finds itself the focus of attention due to Midori’s popular onigiri menu. As people learn about her menu, Midori’s bar is visited by many new customers. One of them is a former boyfriend, Shuichi Kidani, who is the successful director of a hospital. Shuichi has no idea why Midori broke off their relationship 22 years ago. And Midori’s 22-year-old daughter has no idea that her mom was lying when she said her father died before she was born.

“Makeover Mom,” airs on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.

Moms lead busy lives caring for their homes and families, often putting their own needs last. In this special, the attention is focused on mom and support is provided to help her lose weight, get fit, and feel beautiful again. Can she do it?

“The Exchange Letter,” airs on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m.

Mariko Okano’s boyfriend Junichi Nagata leaves suddenly to become a volunteer teacher in a remote country. Mariko and Junichi’s families are both left wondering why he departed so quickly, without discussing his plans with them first.

The next day, a woman’s charred body is discovered in a warehouse. The woman turns out to be Ayako Oshima, the mother of a student who was suspected of arson in a warehouse blaze 15 years ago. Oddly, Mariko had been trapped in that warehouse fire with another student, but was saved by Junichi. However, the other student died in the blaze.

Soon after, Mariko receives a letter from Junichi, in which he confesses to a crime Mariko was not aware of. Are the two fires related? And what was the crime Junichi confessed to?

“The Interrogator Special” (TV Asahi), airs on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m.

Yukiko Makabe is the only female interrogator in a department full of men. Their job is to question suspects immediately after a crime, using interrogation skills and psycho-analysis to solve crimes.

As the only female in the department, Yukiko has a different perspective and style from her colleagues. This brings her success in her interrogations of suspects, but Yukiko continues to be troubled by an unsolved cold case from years ago.

“Three Days to Destiny,” airs on Friday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m.

One of the most popular series to air on KIKU was “Happy Family Plan.” In this show, dads had one week to learn a special talent that could win a special prize for their entire family. In “Three Days to Destiny,” families are given three days to learn and perform a special task. If they do it successfully, they win $10,000!

“Handful of Tears,” premieres on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m.

A heartrending story of a mother who struggles to keep her children from being taken away from her.

After a whirlwind romance, Amelia ends up marrying Mario. They are rich in love but don’t have much money, so to help make ends meet, they live with Mario’s stepmother, who is cruel to Amelia.

To support his family, Mario moves to the city for a job. There, he meets a wealthy heiress named Veronica. Veronica falls in love with Mario and, with the help of Mario’s stepmother, destroys the once happy family.

“Meikyu Sousa,” airs on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.

Detective Yoichiro arrives at a crime scene involving the brutal murder of three family members and finds a young 5-year-old boy hiding in the closet. The discovery of the young boy takes Detective Yoichiro back to his own tragic childhood when his parents were killed in a fire. Without any real clues, the murder investigation continues unsolved. That is, until another murder takes place one year later, this time with a mother and son as the victims. And evidence found at the scene links the killer to the murder that took place a year ago.

“The Poor Heiress,” Saturday at 5 and 6 p.m.

The story of two rival families in a Filipino-Chinese community: the Wong and Sy clans.

The families clash over differences in culture and traditions. But hidden beneath those differences may be relationships that tie the families together in ways they don’t realize.

“Love and Law (YTV),” Thursday at 8 p.m.

Minowa Bunta is not a lawyer but a new office clerk at a law firm. The former chief of a biker gang, Minowa has neither the educational background nor the refinement but was miraculously employed. He has absolutely no knowledge of the law, but he believes all the problems in the world can be solved with love. He would tackle troubles such as inheritance, divorce, illegal loans, monster parents and neighbors with the “power of love” and “unprecedented actions.”

“My Destiny,” Sunday at 5 p.m.

Lucas Matthew is told by a fortune teller that he will meet his true love at the age of 21. Meanwhile, a young girl named Grace is told the same thing by another fortune teller. Neither Lucas Matthew nor Grace takes the predictions seriously until years later when they are both 21.

One day, Grace’s sister Joy dares her to be spontaneous and kiss a stranger. The man Grace kisses turns out to be Lucas Matthew, and they eventually begin a romance. Tragically, Joy is diagnosed with leukemia, and while undergoing treatment at the hospital, begins to fall in love with a young intern. The intern turns out to be the same stranger her sister Grace has fallen for — Lucas Matthew.

“When You Were Mine,” Sunday at 6 p.m.

Nick and Vanessa are engaged to be married, but tragedy strikes when Nick is in a helicopter crash that causes him to lose his memory.

The authorities, unable to find Nick, declare him dead, leaving Vanessa in a deep depression.

Nick resurfaces, but with no recollection of Vanessa or his past life, introduces himself as Darwin. As Darwin, he meets and falls in love with a beautiful artist named Jessa. They marry and have a son.
