A thorn in the flesh

To have to face life with a handicap, a constant thorn in the flesh, a cranky boss, a nagging wife, a thoughtless husband, an invalid to care for, a monotonous job — that is being sentenced to live. And when these are met faithfully and borne cheerfully, not as a drudgery, not with complaint, therein lies the victory of life.
