“Mystery Hour – Onnatachi no Tokuso Saizensen,” premieres Tuesday, April 4, at 7:35 p.m.

Police officers Kyoko Muromachi and Yayoi Ichijo work for the general affairs and public relations sections while former detective Misuzu Yasaka is now a cafeteria cook. These three women love to gossip about what they hear within the precinct. As they idly gossip about classified investigation information and analyze cases from a completely different perspective from the investigation task force, they start to find unexpected hints that are connected to solving the cases. Riko, a 27-year-old love simulation game planner, has no big expectations for a man in her life. She writes romantic scenarios that are full of idealism and wild imagination. Meanwhile, Soichiro is the CEO of an app company called TIMEISM, and is asked to create a new love game. He is almost perfect, but he can’t understand what goes through a woman’s mind.

Riko receives a request for the game, and one day, Soichiro, who is troubled by his one-sided love for his employee Haruka, asks Riko for advice on romance. Riko instructs him to become just like a character in her love simulation games. Her effort pays off and Soichiro and Haruka quickly get close. However, Riko finds herself becoming attracted to Soichiro. Fully subtitled in English.

“Chef: Three Star School Lunch,” premieres Wednesday, April 19, at 7:35 p.m.

Mitsuko Hoshino works as the head chef at a globally-famous Michelin 3-star restaurant in Tokyo’s posh Ginza district. She has won numerous top awards and has risen to rock-star status in the culinary world with her impeccable palate and culinary talent. However, her world is turned upside down when she gets into a fight with the restaurant manager and loses her job. Even with her fame and skills, Mitsuko struggles to find a new work because of her extremely high pride.

One day, she stumbles upon a job for a TV show where she prepares school lunch for kids. Due to various differences in making dishes for gourmet customers and for school students, things don’t work out as expected and she makes a series of rookie mistakes. But with her tough-as-nails attitude, she continues to strive to achieve what she set out to do, which is to regain her star-chef status. Will the ex-celebrity chef succeed in redesigning school lunch and pleasing the kids’ palate? Fully subtitled in English.

Movie of the Month

April 1: “Kakekomi Onna to Kekedashi Otoko (KAKEKOMI),” 2015 jidaigeki/drama, 2 hours and 23 minutes.

Directed by Masato Harada. Starring Yo Oizumi and Erika Toda.

Set in the Edo period during a time when the divorce rate was actually much higher than the present day.

The government has announced a thrift ordinance and the lives of common people get worse. During this time, a nunnery called Tökei-ji in Kamakura becomes known for offering refuge to women while they’re in the process of divorcing their husbands or are otherwise trapped in bad situations. Many are being abused by their husbands. Shinjiro is a doctor and wants to be a literary writer. He stays at a Kashiwaya Inn located at Tökei-ji to get ideas for a book he plans to write about various situations and tactics involved in divorce arbitration. While there, he attempts to offer friendly advice to several of the women regarding their new lives, but winds up getting dragged into their troubles in the process.
