“Peace on Your Wings,” an original musical written by Jenny Taira and Laurie Rubin, co-founders of Ohana Arts: Performing Arts Festival & School, will be shown on Friday, May 20, at 7 p.m. on Oceanic Cable, channel 12 (digital channel 1012). The musical was inspired by the life of Sadako Sasaki, a 12-year-old girl who died from leukemia from radiation caused by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Sadako was made famous for folding over a thousand paper cranes to fulfill an old Japanese legend that one’s wish would be granted if they accomplished that goal.
The musical debuted in November 2014 and has since been staged at the Hawaii Theatre Center and Mamiya Theatre. It has also traveled to the neighbor islands and the Aratani Theater in Los Angeles. The musical will travel to New York in September.
