Human Beings

A child heard the term “human beings” but could not grasp its meaning. His mother explained, “It means all of us — father, mother, brother, sister, our neighbors; everyone we know is a human being.” The child asked, “But all the people we don’t know, are they human beings?” Ah, there’s the rub. All the people we don’t know, are they human beings too? Do we treat them as our brothers?
