The East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai will celebrate the Year of the Monkey with its annual luncheon meeting, to be held on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Sangha Hall.
A short business meeting conducted by president Eugene Nishimura will be held at 10:30 a.m. Beiju honorees, those members who will reach the auspicious age of 88 in 2016, will be also be recognized. They are Fumiko Hakoda, Emiko Hamakawa, Susan Hashimoto, Kiyoko Imada, Larry Isemoto, Sue Johnson, Kazue Kaide, Yoshiko Kaisen, Taeko Kunimitsu, Ellen Nagao, Wallis Nagareda, Yoshimi Nakayama, Norma Samson and Clara Yanabu. Family members and friends of the honorees are encouraged to attend the luncheon, which features entertainment by singer Cary Suefuji.
The afternoon program includes a presentation about preserving and documenting your family history by Arnold Hiura, executive director of the Hawaii Japanese Center.
