WHO/WHAT: Hanayagi Dancing Academy presents its annual “Maizome” or first recital of the year. At the event, a new master dance instructor, Shihan Hanayagi Mitsujyuro and a new Hanayagi natori (certified dancer who receives a professional name), Hanayagi Mitsufujika, will be introduced.
WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at the Mission Memorial Auditorium (next to Honolulu Hale). The event is free and open to the public.
BACKGROUND: Hanayagi-ryu School of Classical Japanese Dance was established in 1845 by Hanayagi Jusuke I, the founding headmaster. It has approximately 24,000 natoris throughout the world and is considered the largest and most popular school of classical Japanese dance in Japan.
