WHO/WHAT: For many in Hawai‘i, the New Year begins with a visit to a Shinto shrine to receive blessings, purchase of protective amulets (omamori) and wooden votive tablets (ema).

Join professors George and Willa Tanabe in a special tour of two Shinto shrines as they share insights on the history and symbolism of such practices throughout Japan and Hawai‘i today. The visit includes a blessing at Daijingu Temple of Hawaii and a visit to Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii.

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, Dec. 13, from 8:30-11 a.m. Meet at JCCH. Check-in begins at 8:15 a.m., bus departs at 8:30 a.m.
