WHO/WHAT: A rib-tickling form of Japanese comic storytelling, rakugo, takes center stage this holiday season with the world premiere of Honolulu Theatre for Youth’s ROCK’N THE HOLIDAYS WITH RAKUGO!, created for HTY by magician/actor Yasu Ishida, who also directs the show.
The performance features three stories: one in the traditional rakugo style; one an Asian adaptation of the Christmas classic, the “Gift of the Magi”; and a third in the Japanese Kamishibai “paper-theatre” style. Live taiko drumming and shamisen music, magic tricks and lots of laughs make this a perfect family holiday show.
