Fujisankei has produced an hour-long documentary on the late U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, which will air on both NGN and KIKU. The documentary includes interviews with the senator himself and people from across the nation whose lives Inouye enriched.
The NGN programs will air on Monday, May 27, at 7:35 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 28, at 8:40 a.m.
KIKU will air the documentary on Thursday, May 30, at 7 p.m.

Inouye was an exceptional role model and devoted supporter of the Japanese American community in the United States. When he passed away at age 88 in December 2012, the entire nation mourned. Almost 50 years ago, Inouye was the first Japanese American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and later the first in the U.S. Senate, the President Pro-Tempore, the third in line of the presidency. Inouye was known for his distinguished record as a legislative leader and was the most powerful Japanese American in Washington. However, his journey to Washington was not without challenges.
“Journey to Washington” looks back at the history of Japanese Americans who came to the U.S. as immigrants, witnessed Imperial Japan’s life-changing attack on Pearl Harbor, and experienced the pain of being labeled as enemy aliens despite being American citizens. During World War II, Inouye joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team to prove his loyalty to the United States along with many other second-generation Japanese Americans. He lost his right arm in combat. This documentary follows Inouye’s tumultuous life, highlighting his courageous battles and tremendous achievement.
